Claude adds Personal Finance tool via Plaid

Original: Claude can now analyze your spending with its new Personal Finance tool

Why This Matters

AI chatbots entering personal finance signals a push into high-trust, data-rich user relationships.

Anthropic launched a Personal Finance tool for Claude on Nov. 5, letting U.S. Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers link bank and credit card accounts via Plaid to query spending, fees, and balances. Access is read-only.

Anthropic's new Personal Finance feature lets Claude connect directly to users' bank and credit card accounts through Plaid, enabling natural-language questions about spending patterns, balances, and transaction history going back two years. The tool can categorize monthly spending, flag duplicate charges or unexpected fee increases, and explain concepts like APR with personalized calculations — all without ads or sponsored product recommendations.

Anthropologic explicitly limits Claude's access to account names, types, last four digits of account numbers, balances, credit limits, and transaction history. Crucially, it cannot move or invest funds. Conversations held within the Personal Finance hub are also excluded from model training data, Anthropic says.

The launch puts Claude in direct competition with ChatGPT, which rolled out comparable financial account integration in May 2026. Personal Finance is now in beta for U.S. users on Pro, Max, and Ultra subscription tiers.
