ChatGPT launches virtual try-on and Favorites for shoppers

Original: ChatGPT can now virtually try on clothes for you

Why This Matters

AI assistants competing directly with Pinterest and Google in fashion discovery could reshape how consumers find and buy clothes online.

OpenAI on October 1, 2026 globally launched two new ChatGPT shopping features: a virtual try-on tool powered by the ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, letting users upload photos to visualize clothing on themselves, and a Favorites library to save products for later. Both features are available worldwide.

OpenAI announced two new shopping features for ChatGPT on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The virtual try-on feature lets users upload a selfie or full-body photo, then visualize how a specific item of clothing or accessory would look on them. A new Try On button appears directly in ChatGPT's shopping results. Users can also upload screenshots or images of items and ask ChatGPT to apply them. The second feature, Favorites, lets users save discovered products to a Library within the app, stored alongside try-on images for easy later reference.

Both features run on the newly launched ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which OpenAI says delivers more natural lighting, richer textures, lower image generation latency, and more reliable instruction-following. Beyond try-on, ChatGPT can now accept style descriptions, find matching pieces, or identify and locate items worn by celebrities in uploaded photos — territory long held by Pinterest and Google. OpenAI previously attempted an instant checkout feature that was quietly shelved after poor performance. Google itself launched virtual try-on last year, so the competitive field is already established.
