Cerebras CEO: Home AI Appliances Are Close

Original: Cerebras CEO says we’re nearing a future where everyone has a personal AI assistant at home

Why This Matters

Consumer AI adoption at scale would drive massive demand for edge and cloud AI chips.

Cerebras Systems CEO Andrew Feldman said at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 that personal AI home appliances are near, predicting locally-run assistants with cloud backup, payment access, and personalized user profiles.

Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 on October 13, Cerebras co-founder and CEO Andrew Feldman told attendees that widespread home AI is "not very far away." His vision: personal AI assistants that run primarily on-device — much like smartphones — but offload some tasks to the cloud. These assistants, he predicts, will learn individual users deeply, operate within a defined security perimeter, and have direct access to payment credentials to make purchases autonomously.

Feldman cited Meta's Muse and Instinct — the AI startup now valued at $10 billion — as evidence that consumer-facing AI agents are already gaining traction with everyday users. He's not just theorizing: he personally uses "a collection of agents" to manage his calendar and pull background info before calls.

Still, Feldman is deliberately staying in his lane. "I like building the platforms that other people's ideas take flight on," he said, leaving consumer application development to other founders. For a chipmaker whose business depends on AI infrastructure demand, the home appliance vision isn't exactly a disinterested prediction — but Feldman's framing of on-device compute aligns directly with Cerebras's hardware positioning.
