Why This Matters
Automation enables faster Asahi Linux updates for Apple Silicon Mac users
Asahi Linux updated their installer to version 0.8.0 after nearly two years, adding Linux 7.0 support, Mac Pro compatibility, and automated deployment. The update resolves kernel booting issues with live media caused by outdated device trees.
Asahi Linux released installer version 0.8.0, their first update in nearly two years since June 2024. The previous manual release process was time-consuming and required CDN administrative access, causing significant delays. The outdated installer became problematic when kernel 6.18 introduced changes to Apple USB subsystem device tree bindings, making it impossible to boot newer kernels from live media. To solve this permanently, Asahi Linux automated their deployment process using GitHub workflows. Updates to the main branch automatically deploy to https://alx.sh/dev, while tagged releases deploy to https://alx.sh. The new installer bundles m1n1 stage 1 binary version 1.5.2, adds Mac Pro support, and includes firmware update functionality. The team also moved the installable images manifest to a separate repository for independent updates.
