Asahi Linux has merged M3 series support into its installer as of September 6, 2026. Features including webcam, microphone, USB 3 (10 Gb/s), AV1 hardware video decoding, WiFi, and Bluetooth are functional. Full DCP and GPU acceleration remain pending.
Asahi Linux announced on September 6, 2026 that support for Apple M3 series machines has been merged into its installer, making M3 Macs officially supported. Nearly all features available on M1 and M2 machines are functional, including the webcam, internal microphones, USB up to 10 Gb/s, hardware-accelerated video decoding with AV1 support, WiFi, and Bluetooth. Known limitations include non-functional sleep mode due to firmware framebuffer constraints, disabled HDMI ports on equipped MacBooks (both tied to missing full DCP support), and no support yet for the Mac Studio (M3 Ultra). The M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max variants in MacBooks and iMacs are supported. GPU support remains absent, and performant or power-efficient 3D acceleration is not expected in the near term. Installation is currently gated behind Expert mode via the command 'curl -L https://alx.sh/ | EXPERT=1 sh'. The project aims to remove the Expert requirement ahead of the Fedora Linux 45 beta release in the coming weeks, barring major regressions.
