Apple Launches HomeView Smart Display and Home Hardware

Why This Matters

Apple enters a smart display market Amazon and Google have owned for nearly a decade.

Apple unveiled the HomeView smart display, HomePod Mini 2, and Apple TV 4K 4th-gen at a NYC event on Oct 13, 2026. The $299 HomeView features a 7-inch display, Siri AI, face recognition, and partner devices from LG and Schneider Electric.

Apple is making its most aggressive smart-home push in years, announcing three new devices at a media event in New York City. The centerpiece is the Apple HomeView — a $299 countertop smart display with a 7-inch square screen on a speaker base. It runs a standalone 'HomeView Software' OS with no App Store access, though Apple has curated a selection of apps including Messages, Safari, FaceTime, and Spotify. Developers who've built CarPlay-compatible apps can also surface them on the device.

Siri AI, overhauled in iOS 27 this year, powers the HomeView experience. It can now field broad questions like competing assistants, and draws on personal context from a user's iPhone — so asking it to find a recipe from a text thread or add a dentist appointment to the family calendar should work as expected. The HomeView supports up to six iCloud profiles and uses on-device camera face detection to display personalized views when the right person approaches — though this requires their iPhone to be on the same Wi-Fi network and recently unlocked. Full functionality requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.

Apple also revealed the HomePod Mini 2 and a fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, along with smart-home accessories — including a video doorbell, thermostats, and security cameras — developed with LG and Schneider Electric under what Apple is calling the 'Home Collection.' The HomeView goes on sale November 13 in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, Singapore, and South Africa.
