Partnership addresses critical AI compute shortage as demand for coding services grows

Anthropic signed a deal to use computing resources from Elon Musk's SpaceXAI Colossus 1 supercomputer in Memphis. The partnership provides Anthropic access to over 300 megawatts of capacity and 220,000 Nvidia GPUs to improve Claude Pro and Claude Max subscriber services.

Anthropic announced at its San Francisco developer conference that it will use computing resources from SpaceXAI's Colossus 1 supercomputer in Memphis, Tennessee. SpaceXAI, formed from the merger of SpaceX and xAI earlier this year, operates one of the world's largest AI supercomputers with approximately 220,000 Nvidia GPUs including H100, H200, and GB200 chips. The deal provides Anthropic access to over 300 megawatts of new capacity to address recent rate limits and service disruptions affecting Claude Code users. Anthropic expressed interest in partnering on orbital AI compute capacity development. The partnership comes as SpaceXAI prepares for a potential IPO next month, with Anthropic as a customer potentially boosting investor confidence in the expensive supercomputing project.
