Adobe has updated its experimental iOS camera app Project Indigo with AI-powered features including LLM-based photo critique, capture suggestions, advanced object removal, depth-of-field generation, and style transfer, expanding on the app's original pro controls and multi-frame super-resolution.
Adobe has added several AI-powered features to Project Indigo, its experimental iOS camera app launched last year. The update introduces LLM-based tools that critique photos and provide editing suggestions. Marc Levoy, who previously led camera development for Google Pixel, heads the project. He noted that most generative AI tools rely on prompt-based editing, which can be unpredictable, so Project Indigo's new features are designed as buttons that produce more deterministic outputs.
The two main critique features are: (1) a 'professional' photo critique covering framing, lighting, colors, and emotional impact; and (2) capture and edit suggestions, which advise on how to reshoot or improve a photo using Adobe Lightroom controls.
The advanced object removal feature allows users to toggle removal of specific categories—such as background people, trash cans, wires, fences, and vehicles—or describe a custom object. According to hands-on testing by TechCrunch, results were artifact-free. Additional new features include AI-generated depth of field (background blur) and style transfer options such as watercolor, pen and ink, and monochromatic.
